Maybe it's their textbooks.
Unlike Japan, in China the government really does control history. China's own history has been relentlessly rewritten to erase the episodes the Communist Party would rather forget.
Thou hast the strength of will to slay thyself, Then is it likely thou wilt undertake A thing like death to chide away this shame, That copest with death himself to scape from it: And, if thou darest, I'll give thee remedy.

Hi Patrick,
Put yourself into the Chinese shoes: Let's say your home country was invaded. Years after, your enemy claimed that they did not brutally invade your country and were actually doing good deeds. What makes the matter worse is that your enemy try to brainwash their descendents. What would you feel?
BTW, the quote is so not true. It is from Japan Today anyway. So, I won't be surprised if it is biased.
