Guite could be recalled by commons committee

Liberal MP Shawn Murphy says the bureaucrat who ran the federal sponsorship program could face jail if it turns out he lied to a parliamentary committee.

Murphy, a member of the Commons Public Accounts Committee, and committee chair and Conservative MP John Williams spoke on CTV's Question Period. They were asked to comment on discrepancies in Chuck Guite's testimony in two different arenas.

"One remedy that's available to our committee and one remedy that we're now looking at is, he can be brought back before the committee and he can be charged with perjury or contempt of parliament," Murphy said.

Murphy went on to say that parliament could impose "whatever sanctions it sees fit" and that could include imprisonment.
