McCain's Stock Dips Lower

Rough. I can't believe a grown man would tell this joke at an event:
Last week, in response to a serious question about Iran, the Republican presumptive nominee joked about killing Iranians with weaponized cancer. This week, it's news about a joke involving gorillas and rape.

"Did you hear the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die? When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, 'Where is that marvelous ape?'"

Get it? Women like to be beaten and raped. Hoo-hoo! In days past, it's been jokes about wife-beating, bombing Iran, Chelsea Clinton's looks, and Alzheimer's Disease. Based on these precedents, I can only imagine Senator McCain's forthcoming zingers about still-births, burn victims and Thalidomide.

Ok, this was at an event in 1986, but by this time he was already a senator and 14 years from his time in Vietnam. In other words, he was a mature veteran and in the public eye for a long time by this point.

Cesca makes a good point in this article - We've all told bad jokes, but what kind of judgment breakdown do you need to tell this horrible joke with the press and mixed company present? This is a contender for the position of new leader of free world?

If this was the only time McCain had told one ill-considered, off-colour joke, it would probably be passed over as an isoloated, one-time lapse of judgment, and not indicative of a flawed personality. At this point, he is coming up with violent, mysogynist and ignorant jokes on a weekly basis. It's not just his sense of humour in question, it's also the underlying violence of his words.

Keep watching - He's guaranteed to come up with some serious bombs by election day.
