An Apology For What, Exactly?

The hammer of the gods
Will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying:
Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore
--Led Zeppelin

Arriving on our western shores daily....is this:
BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) - Thousands of Muslims rampaged Sunday in Beirut, setting fire to the Danish Embassy, burning Danish flags and lobbing stones at a Maronite Catholic church as violent protests over caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad spread from neighboring Syria.

How is it that from some of the most repressive, anti-religious regimes can issue statements like this?
Syria blamed Denmark for the protests, criticizing the Scandinavian nation for refusing to apologize for the caricatures of Islam's holiest figure.

"(Denmark's) government was able to avoid reaching this point ... simply through an apology" as requested by Arab and Muslim diplomats, state-run daily Al-Thawra said in an editorial Sunday.

"It is unjustifiable under any kind of personal freedoms to allow a person or a group to insult the beliefs of millions of Muslims," the paper said.

Er, okay so it's acceptable to kill them in a tyrannical rampage, but not insult them? I see....
The Hama massacre occurred when the government of Syria attacked the town of Hama and killed thousands of people on February 2, 1982. Amnesty International claims that 10,000-25,000 were killed at Hama, though many figures exist and the number could be considerably smaller or larger than this. The Syrian government had made no official claim about the number killed at Hama.

And what are they going to apologize for, really? Allowing their citizens to exercise the right to free speech? No thanks. The cartoons might have been in poor taste, but like Pym Fortuyn, the press has again exposed the fifth column of radical Islam that seeks to destroy the societies it infests.

Even the EU steps up:
In an interview with La Repubblica daily, European Justice Commissioner Franco Frattini said the European Union could not apologize for the offence caused.

“No, it’s not Europe’s duty, nor do I think it is the duty of (Danish) Prime Minister Rasmussen. We don’t have the power to apologize in the name of the press. That would be violating the basis of freedom of the press. If they feel it is right, it is up to the editors and the authors of the cartoons to apologize to those who feel offended," Frattini said.

Step off, f*** you very much. The West has already fought this battle several times against its own governments, mafias, Libranos, armed militias, petty thugs and religious tyrants. It's not going to back off after winning this high ground after the winning this hard fought highground, boy-os.

Speaking of attempts to roll back free speech, Warren K addresses this debate by starting off with this statement:
Firstly, I am a censor.

True that. Double True.

Thank God he's nowhere near the controls of this country anymore. (Was he ever?)
