To those new states whom we welcome to the ranks of the free
We pledge our word that one form of colonial control
Shall not have passed away
Merely to be replaced by a far more iron tyranny.
We shall not expect to find them always supporting our view
But she shall always hope to find them supporting their own freedom.
And to remind them that in the past
Those that foolishly sought power
By riding the back of the tiger
Ended up inside

It's interesting that the most shrill of Bush's critics are pouring on the heat right before the Iraqi elections. Andy Sullivan, Snoop Dowd, and the fools stuffing the IHT Op/Eds with their BS are working overtime to see that the PR coup known as the Iraqi elections are seen as worthless or illegitimate.
Well, I guess I'd be a little nervous too. Dowd and co never exptected to see the day when Iraqi elections would occur, and if it were up to the them Saddam would still be holding his 99% (and climbing) approval rating from his palace in Tikrit (you know, the one with the funny tigers on the walls?). Before the snivelling hasbeens that banked their careers on Bush's election loss have a chance to pronounce the end for the nth time, maybe would should, oh, say see what happens in the elections before we announce their futility.
Oh, maybe the US may have their problems on the ground in Iraq, but let's get real. I mean real real-not NY times fantasyland real. The Shia insurgency is done, and chances are they won't be back again after they come out huge in this election. The Kurds have never lifted a finger, and are just about the best allies the US has in the country. So, what are we left with? A rump roast of 20% of the population, known as the former ruling class that are pissed about their being kicked from the top, and not really liking their new status.
Sorta reminds me of the fools who...oh, banked their careers on Bush's downfall, doesn't it? Is Snoop Dowd feeling some sympathy for the devil?

I guess my message to all those hearing this negative press lately about Iraq, is this: Let's just see what happens in the elections, and remember that there is an agenda in all this recent negative coverage stating that Iraq is a lost cause. They said the same thing about Afghanistan, the US (during the cold war), the eastern bloc, the Japanese, et al.
Things are not going well, but it hasn't all changed in the last 5 minutes as the press would seem to suggest.
