And if you believed 'em
Well then you got gassed
The media deceived em'
Just like in the past

I cannot remember an election debate where the conservative was spun as the 'winner' in a debate. Martin 'won' our leadership debate: thus spake Chantal Hebert! Bustamante really 'cleaned up' in the California debates..except for that part where he patronized Arianna Huffington like a jackass (anyone inside the LA Times grab that? Cruz was a sexist pig!)...And the polling right before showed Cruz was winning by 5 points, where in reality, on election day, Arnold 'picked up' 20 points, won almost half the votes and beat Cruz by a mile.
I cannot really comment on the presidential debate itself too much, since I totally misinterpreted what Bush was referring to last night in the transcripts (below). It just seems like every single election is spun pro liberal. For instance, every news outlet is fronting Kerry's 'Colossal Error of Judgement', like they didn't read that same sentiment fifty billion times before on an angry moveon.org protestor sign.
Anyways, here's the electoral map. This is bound to change over the next few days.
Here's the democrat spin on things...this is fascinating, if partisan:
KERRY'S THE WINNER – HE BEAT EXPECTATIONS
This is interesting because this headline play along with the strategy before the debate where the democrats played up the president's 'exceptional debating skills' (doesn't that jive with his image of the 'village idiot'?) The democrats downplayed expectations so much that Kerry had a very low bar to cross to be determined as 'the winner'.
Joe Scarborough: "John Kerry won the debate. Karl Rove: John Kerry won the debate." [MSNBC, 10/1/04]
Note: for MSNBC, just assume 'liberal spin'. Is he quoting Rove? What?
Peggy Noonan: "Mr. Kerry did himself some good in that he seemed focused, to my mind, for once." [Fox News Channel, 9/20/04]
I'm not disputing this, but I would bet that Noonan would never come out as being 'pro kerry' and even if it were true that Kerry won, she would never say it.
Sen. John McCain: "I think that Kerry did a good job." [MSNBC, 9/30/04]
Again, he's not declaring a winner...McCain said over and over again last night that Bush won. Anyways..
Fred Barnes: "Kerry did very well and we will have a presidential race from here on out" [Fox News Channel, 9/30/04]
Hmmm. Revolutionary. All the networks want a race...that's for sure. For higher ratings they definitely want Kerry in this...
Howard Fineman: "Kerry won the event." [MSNBC, 10/1/04]
Decisive! And from MSNBC, no doubt! Maybe they could quote someone from Slate next! Did they just sit in front of MSNBC all night?
Must be the great haircut.
Mark Whitaker, Newsweek: "I think Kerry won on style in this debate." [CNN, 9/30/04]
Joe Scarborough: "It was John Kerry's best performance ever…As far as the debate goes, I don't see how anybody could look at this debate and not score this a very clear win on points for John Kerry." [MSNBC, 9/30/04]
Clearly for a democrat maybe. They are really scraping the bottom of the barrel when they quote the same guy twice. (See the first quote)
Ron Reagan: "Kerry was the clear winner." [MSNBC, 9/30/04]
This guy hates his dad and the Republicans. Way to mix it up here. "Daddy never paid enough attention to me! I know! I'll become a valuable mouthpiece for the dems as revenge and then slander dad while he's in the grave!"
Bill Kristol: "I think Kerry did pretty well." [Fox News Channel, 9/30/04]
Again, Kristol would never think 'Kerry won', and would never articulate that.
Andrea Mitchell: "Kerry began to narrow the gap." [MSNBC, 9/30/04]
More MSNBC? Why not quote the Times?
Chris Matthews: "I thought it was smart for Kerry to keep going back to saying that 90% of the casualties were American. For the President to deny that is going against American perceptions." [MSNBC, 9/30/04]
The guy who was an election aide to democrats came out as a pro kerry? Get. Out.
Craig Crawford: "Kerry was good about not being put on the defensive. There were many opportunities he may have wanted to respond to the mixed messages that Bush kept talking about, he would just kind of laugh and let it go and make his points. He won the cutaway shots." [MSNBC, 10/1/04]
Are you related to Cindy? He won the cutaways by laughing? Er, does this show Kerry is something other than a boring robot?
George Stephanopoulos: "Kerry has momentum coming out of here." [ABC, 9/30/04]
Clinton's aide? He came out as pro kerry, too? Ok, maybe Georgie really did lose. Hey, wait a second...
Boston Globe Headline: "Kerry stays focused, projects strength" [10/1/04]
Liberal state newspaper with pro liberal editorials from liberal town comes out for Kerry. Stop our liberal presses!
Los Angles Times Headline: "TV Analysts Give Kerry an Early Lead in Quest for Spin" [10/1/04]
Ditto. What happened to your 'Arnold Groped Me' stories, where you quote democratic activists slurring the Terminator? Hey, who's hand is sliding up your puppet backside and controlling your mouth?
