First off, here's the transcript
I have been 'occupied' for the last 3 hours so I did not see the debate...I'm just scanning notes, learning and reviewing...It seems the debate was heavy on the Iraq issue. Kerry says that he 'can make America' safer and that Bush did not properly go about invading Iraq. Bush, for his part, seemed to hammer home his two key points, that a) he is consistent, where Kerry is not and b) he softly, oh so softly, attacked his lack of support for the troops.
Transcript money shot:
MODERATOR: Do you believe the election of Senator Kerry on November the 2nd would increase the chances of the U.S. being hit by another 9/11-type terrorist attack?
BUSH: No, I don't believe it's going to happen.
Wow. Bold statement. I wonder if Al-Qaida is watching and taking notes.
KERRY: I'm proud that important military figures who are supporting me in this race: former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff John Shalikashvili; just yesterday, General Eisenhower's son, General John Eisenhower, endorsed me; General Admiral William Crown; General Tony McBeak, who ran the Air Force war so effectively for his father -- all believe I would make a stronger commander in chief. And they believe it because they know I would not take my eye off of the goal: Osama bin Laden.
Unfortunately, he escaped in the mountains of Tora Bora. We had him surrounded. But we didn't use American forces, the best trained in the world, to go kill him. The president relied on Afghan warlords and he outsourced that job too. That's wrong.
So yesterday, (or the day before, they all run together) Ta-Reh-Za, the self-described "African American" (Teresa, you were the daughter of the colonizers. The enemy. You are the epitome of 'whitey'), said that she believed Bush would pull Osama out of a hat within the next month to manipulate the election. Next thing you know, Kerry is scoring political points off the 'Neutralizing Osama' issue. They are having this one both ways, which is fair enough because Bush could have killed this issue with his capture...
I have to run...this ain't over.
