'The Problem's Being Worked On'
--quoting rumsfeld on this week's uprising....
i'm about as pro iraqi war as the next redneck psycho with more arms than an octopus, but this whole "problem" is about as much as i can take as far as defending the US actions in iraq. first off, they (the US admin) knew right off the bat that post war planning was minimal. they knew this in the summer of 2002, and they only started planning the post war period about two months before invasion...where as the invasion planning started...as soon as the last war ended. even if they only started planning two minutes before the end of the war, they should have had a handle on the single hugest problem that everyone was telling them...even their defenders:
1) there's not enough troops. they can't patrol everywhere, and the areas that need law and order are the one's that have the least amount.
2) reign in the paramilitary militias: armed groups of ideological fanatics, who are backed by foreign powers are planning to overthrow the government. sound familiar? yeah, its in the plot of every other major uprising for the last zillion years. including some very recent examples. might wanna take action on that.
3) admit you are wrong: admit it. you messed up in some areas. there is no shame there. you don't need to humiliate your critics, or pretend it never happened, or revise what happened in the past. you can admit your mistakes and move on.
