Holy Blood and the Holy Grail
i started reading the Da Vinci Code yesterday and couldn't quite leave it alone...so i read the whole 470 pages of that thing. yesterday. that's pretty much all i did. so no i'm looking for more answers. it seems the holy catholic church and her followers are extremely pissed about the 'un-christian' ness of the whole book.yes, the book does raise some questions about the church and yes, it does weave a tale about intrigue, the church and those who are attempting to find truth (the enemies of the catholic church).
the main point of contention, is the idea that mary magdalene may have been married to jesus. the idea is just...an idea. i am intrigued by this. and christians of all faiths should at least have a look at this theory for a couple of reasons:
1. this theory is ancient. if there is no dialogue or discussion about it, the idea will fester. it needs to be addressed one way or another. simple denials or ad hominem attacks don't cut it....and those have all i've heard so far.
2. God is on the side of truth; he isn't on the side of those who would suppress the truth. St francis of assisi specifically said that god is truth. finding out about the truth brings us closer to him.
3. there is some compelling scripture left out of the bible which does indicate that jesus was married to mary. this isn't blasphemy. constantine (a pagan) just edited out most of the gospels. i previously read that there 28 gospels, while the da vinci code indicates upwards of 80 were left out. my next move is to investigate the claim more closely and find out if there is any merit to it.
Full Disclosure: i was born and raised in the catholic church, but bare no grudge. i know the faith, but i don't practice it......also, as a former business consultant w/ indian affairs i was privy to information about all the crimes committed by catholic and non catholic priests in western canadian residential schools.
