Sovereignty for the UK! er Queeeebec!
Quebec doesn't want Dorval airport to be called Pierre Elliot Trudeau airport. I wouldn't want his name on any building, mountain or anything else in BC so i can sympathize.
However, the sovereigntists behind the the protest don't want it because:
Sovereigntists were furious when Ottawa announced the name change last month. The late prime minister's decision to implement the War Measures Act during the 1970 Quebec terrorist kidnapping crisis is just one reason many sovereigntists don't want to see their old foe's name on the province's major airport
Trudeau's only success in canada (besides alienating large portions of the west) was to destroy the FLQ. But the pq and friends are pissed about this.
why?
are they sympathizing with their old terrorist friends? and the FLQ were terrorists: attacking/killing diplomats, threatening leaders and generally holding the country hostage. that is bs.
although, one can hardly accuse the pq of being "undemocratic" or "treasonist" since they have long ceded that point. their whole MO is to destroy canada and declare quebec seperate no matter how little mandate or legality or ethics this operation would take. they are the definition of a fascist movement with a belief in a "pure, quebecois" race, the belief in glorious past that was ruined by outsiders/foreigners (aka: their english countrymen) and their painting a glorious return to this movement by expelling outsiders and building an apartheid state.
the pq/bq sovereignty movement is a failed, miserable movement that owes its intelletual past to mousollini, hitler and pinochet......all of which was conceded by none other than Bourassa, when he was still a conservative and writing for political periodical in the early eighties.
