Prodigal Son of Democracy: A Bastard Child
So kuwait held an election. let's call it an "election"...just like Saddam was "elected". well, i guess there are baby steps and there are baby steps to democracy..no mention of violence at the polls, but liberals lost ground and the religious fanatics/freaks are up 1 seat.

Money Quote:

Only 15% of the Kuwaiti population can vote, with all women, recently naturalised citizens and members of the armed forces excluded

well thanks, BBC, but i don't think these groups constitute 85% of the population. Why the distortion? ...and from the wishful thinking dept of the beeb:

The BBC's Julia Wheeler, in Dubai, says that despite the liberals' poor showing, their campaign for greater women's rights has more chance of success in the new parliament.

She said many of the new Islamist MPs are predicted to be less opposed to women having political rights than outgoing colleagues.

Good luck with that.
