You just can't win, hillary.

While hillary has become the democrats new pragmatist/rock star/writer/advocate and centrist, her old base of feminists are turning their back on her. This is just patently stupid. Just because Hillary's overall focus is not simply the radical feminist agenda, does that make her a "sellout"? She is a pragmatist first, and realizes right now that there has been a conservative shift in the US. She won't appeal to middle america if she stays in radical mode. Her new book seems to confirm this appeal.

Its mostly marketing...the author of the article, lerner, seems to believe that this new pragmatic phase is just this veil on her true feelings. maybe it is, maybe not, but hillary is the uber politician. she learned from one of the masters. she sees the current field of candidates on both sides of the political spectrum and feels she can come right up the middle against the TBA republican and the other democrats in 2008. This is especially important to do, since Al Gore started talking about class warfare in the last election. wow. that was a mistake. Hillary can shore up support on both sides by appearing as a victim (for the left), and appearing to love traditional family values (for the religious right)....which is exactly what she does in her new book. its positioning, marketing and appealing to demographics.

The feminist cause would probably be wise to realize this, because if hillary ever gets into office she could further their cause exponentially..(although i hope by that time, there won't be much left to accomplish on that front).

one money quote from this article:

right-wingers react rabidly to her seemingly simply because she's a powerful woman (one particularly sick website titled "The Clinton Witch Project" equates a Hillary presidency with the "bitch slapping" of America)

Whoa there tonto, easy on the overheated rheotoric! One website does not make up the right.....even though from this 'example' does not imply anything about hating powerful women (maybe just hillary)...let's look over other powerful right wing women shall we?
Ann Coulter: The right's new vanguard. Probably one of the most respected columnists and a hero to the right.
ms. Rice: uber-Powerful female. Has Bush's ear, and is a confidante.
Thatcher: i think we know which side was reacting "rabidly" with sexist BS towards this leader.
Kim Campbell: Going into the 1993 election, she actually had the lead in the polls...too bad she followed Mulroney
Debra Grey: The Alliance's long time flag bearer. Probably the most patriotic defender of Canada and the West we have seen in a long time.

These are all powerful women from the right that have been subjected to a huge amount of sexism from the left. I can't think of one of these women who has not suffered extreme attacks from the left. Thatcher, in particular, was cut down for years because she was a women in power. Some of her actions in n. ireland were not good, but that is another rant. I think the right wing really hates hillary because of some obvious reasons...she:
1. acted as if elected after the 1992 election.
2. attempted to get a bloated, complicated and socialized healthcare plan through congress.
3. said 'vast, right wing conspiracy'
4. is married to a philandering, lying, perjuring cynic
5. is implicated in whitewatergate (hillary! you turned $1,000 into $100,000 overnight in a land deal? sounds legit to me!)
