Italian Quits Over Cartoons; 15 Die in Nigeria

TURIN, Italy, Feb. 18 — A day after at least 11 people were killed in Libya amid continuing violence over the Danish cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, an Italian government minister resigned Saturday for wearing a T-shirt printed with the cartoons.

Cartoons, peeps. Cartoons. Of course, it's not about cartoons.......

Meanwhile, in the "Jews don't generally go on murderous rampages so we don't take their protests seriously" realm, anti-semitism played no part in a Muslim gang abducting, torturing and then burning to death a Jewish man in Paris. Nothing anti-semitic. Nothing..
On Monday, several weeks after he was seized, Halimi was found tied to a tree, naked and burned all over his body. He died on the way to the hospital.

"They acted with indescribable cruelty," the judiciary police chief leading the investigation said. "They kept him naked and tied up for weeks. They cut him and in the end poured flammable liquid on him and set him alight."

[...]
....Paris public prosecutor, Jean-Claude Marin, told the media that "no element of the current investigation could link this murder to an anti-Semitic declaration or action"

Whuh?

Yeah, it's weird how law enforcement seems very loath to call anything a hate crime unless seventeen eye-witnesses saw the assailant screaming "I hate (insert slang designating ethnic group)" while simultaneously stabbing someone.

I remember hearing on the radio last week about a Muslim man who was beat up and stabbed by a few guys he'd never met before in a subway station, and the cop in charge of the investigation saying "there's no reason to believe this was a hate crime, or that it was racially motivated."

I don't get it.
