Martin emphatically, emotionally, and with enthusiasm says "I did not have sexual relations with that woman", er....Um "I did not have sexual relations with that sponsorship scandal". Hmm, better.
Martin queried about letter sent to Gagliano in 1998
He wasn't even aware that Gagliano was the minister responsible for sponsorships, he testified.
Finkelstein then asked Martin to explain his response to a letter in 1998 from someone complaining that Quebec was getting the lion's share of government ads. Martin forwarded the letter to Gagliano.
When asked how he would have known that Gagliano should get the letter, Martin expressed doubt that he sent it on personally and said a staff member likely did it.
Yeah, I know when I get correspondence from Federal Ministers, I take time to quickly close my eyes, plug my ears and start singing loudly...until someone comes into my office and takes the letter.
So how did his underlings know to send it to Gagliano? How did they know about Gagliano, and not Martin? Does that even sound remotely plausible? Martin's underlings must have been very confident and informed to not only not talk to the boss about the letter, Gagliano or sponsorships, but make sure his top level and confidential letters are forwarded without his knowledge or permission.
Montreal! Too hardcore!
