Naomi, my democratic Hombre
I talk a lot of ****
But I can back it up, though

I diss Naomi Klein as much as I praise her, but here is an issue we both agree on: Democracy should be supported in Iraq---and the left's stunning abdication of this position is unacceptable. Why is the foaming mouth left suddenly taking on the characteristics of the old far right? IE: "Democracy is for the White West; The US would hate the democratic regimes of the Middle East; They aren't ready for democracy; They had an election-big deal"

I would hate to connect their identity politics, rampant anti-semitism and their sudden movement towards social Darwinism as a sign of decline but...I digress...

Naomi nails it:
The great error made during the electoral campaign was that the anti-war movement allowed itself to turn into an anti-Bush movement. ...

We also need to more clearly focus on policy demands. I have been arguing for a long time that the anti-war movement should turn itself into a pro-democracy movement, i.e., support the demands for democracy in Iraq.

One of our great failures was in January of 2004, when there were a hundred thousand people in the streets in Baghdad demanding direct elections and rejecting the idea of an interim government. We didn't mirror those protests, unlike the time when we had protests around the world opposing the war.

Interesting....

Also of note: after 9/11, Naomi was all over the anti-semitic BS that was rampant in the far left.
