Guité must testify publicly, Gomery rules

Chuck Guité, the federal bureaucrat at the centre of the sponsorship scandal, has been ordered to testify publicly at the Gomery inquiry into the scandal despite his request to do so behind closed doors.
Judge John Gomery ruled Thursday that it wasn't necessary for Mr. Guité to be protected in that manner, despite claims by lawyers for the bureaucrat who said his testimony could prejudice the jury in his upcoming trial on fraud charges related to the scandal.
