I want to comment on my trip to Japan and explain the events that happened but I find myself hamstrung by my current reading: Orientalism, by Edward Said. I realize while reading the book that a careful review of my perceptions of Japan might be biased with what I have heard and seen of Japan while in North America. I feel that as long as I can attempt to portray the truth and be mindful of my own editorial comment, that I will be safe.
To be fair, I don't think our society views 'asia' as one monolithic society as it might have at one time, and I don't think that Canadians share the view that the East is a source of resources and that it is in need of 'correction'. Its a different world in Japan. I'll think about my own post for a few days and hope I don't come out sounding like a 'Orientalist'.
Hit the Orient
By Occident
Heaven sent

1,000 yen for sake
40,000 for rent
