Kofi: Needs the Meds

Kofi Annan: 'Iraq war was illegal'
8.16AM, Thu Sep 16 2004

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has made a stinging attack on war with Iraq.

Mr Annan said the conflict was illegal and violated the UN Charter.

He also claimed there could not be credible elections in Iraq next January if the bloodshed continues.
His comments seem certain to cause major embarrassment for Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President George W Bush.

"I am one of those who believe that there should have been a second UN resolution because the Security Council indicated that if Iraq did not comply, there will be consequences," said Mr Annan.

Hmm, thanks for showing up. Here's the UN's track record:

1. Pulled out of Iraq after one bombing of the UN's HQ last year
2. Appoints Sudan to Head up the human rights commission while Darfur is raging
3. Decides to undercut Iraq's democracy rather than deal with Darfur directly.
4. Passes resolution to go after Iraq over WMD's etc, but cannot pull the trigger

PS: Kofi how are the resolutions on Nepal, Tibet, Darfur, Rwanda, and the Congo going? How are you helping in Grenada?

That's what I thought.

Remember how nations conducted their wars so as to respect the will of the UN? It was long time ago.
