Updated: 11:41 a.m. ET May 19, 2004RAFAH, Gaza Strip - An Israeli missile and four tank shells ripped through a large crowd of Palestinians demonstrating Wednesday against the Israeli invasion of a neighboring refugee camp, killing at least 10 Palestinians. Hospital officials said all the victims were children and teenagers.

At least 50 people were wounded in the attack, also mostly children, a hospital official said.

However, Israeli media reported the toll was much higher. “Twenty-two Palestinians were killed, among them women and children. More than 50 were wounded,” said the Y-net Web site of the best-selling newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth. The Jerusalem Post gave a similiar toll.

Israel's military acknowledged that soldiers fired four tank shells, a missile and machine guns to stop 3,000 Palestinian demonstrators it said were heading toward a battle zone in the Gaza Strip.

"There were armed men in the midst of the demonstration," Brig. Gen. Ruth Yaron, the army spokeswoman, told Israel TV's Channel One.

here's the problem i see with 'palestinian protests'. inevitably, there are gunmen in every procession looking rip it up with israelis. they know the israelis won't fire on them if they are in a crowd of 'innocents'. the 'protesters' are also privy to that fact. they understand that they are the defense of the monsters in their midst.

there is the sad fact that the palestinians do not absolve their own children from the duty of 'jihad' and so they are unwitting participants in this devious manouever....and oh surprise! gunmen open fire, israel responds, and now innocent people are killed.

now who is really to blame for this? israel looks bad, but can we apply some critical thinking to this exercise?
