Monsters, INC
All i've seen the last few days are the faces of frightened people wailing, crying, moaning and just panicked because their country is falling apart in liberia.

but its the US's fault, right? we really have to do something about world reporting...here's the 'money quote'

After the blasts, enraged Liberians dragged bodies from the residential compound and lined them up in front of the embassy, next to a wall emblazoned with the American seal.

"We're dying here," screamed some in the crowd, as two American servicemen in camouflage watched from behind bulletproof glass.

One man held up a hastily scrawled sign: "Today G. Bush kill Liberia people."

Down the hill from the embassy, a small boy lay face-down in the grass, the victim of a blast just metres away. Leaves of greens he was collecting for food lay scattered around his body.

hmm, i seem to recall that 18 people died inside the US embassy today. looks like the calls came from inside the embassy, too. i don't think anyone was sitting passively watching others die over there. just a feeling. but you won't read that in this article. what bullshit.

so the US will throw 4500 men and women into harms way for a country for only humanitarian reasons, but they can't win..when they do something the US is an evil hegemon....when they don't they are a heartless superpower. oh yes, and stupid reporters will misrepresent the general opinion of the whatever population they want.

sigh...every poll says the liberians are pro american and want them to bring peace to their country. but hey! there are dead people! moral equivalence is alive and well! the US didn't do enough/did too much. is the US some sort of god? can they do anything? are they obliged to right every wrong, while they are blamed for that wrong no matter how it happens.

the US did 5 million dollars of arms trade while the french, russians, chinese and germany all did several billion dollars worth of trade, but its the US who armed saddam.

we have to stop. canada and europe have to examine their attitudes seriously. stop and examine our prejudices. i am critical of the US on somethings, but it has to be grounded in principles, not prejudice when we criticize.

i got a little off topic here. the issue at hand is that people are suffering in liberia. yes, the US should do something, but so should the rest of the world. maybe some good, stable neighbours. South africa? kenya? i'm looking in your direction.

kofi annan got off his ass said something productive today

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan once again urged Washington and West African states to commit troops.

"I think we can really salvage the situation if troops were to be deployed urgently and promptly," he said.

good! you didn't miss this crisis. what about the congo?...oh, nevermind.
