Letter from Iraq
this was originally posted on LGF (Charles is done insulting Canada, thank god). Its an open letter from an american GI to his church (apparently). This is quite interesting, because most of the war coverage is from second hand accounts from reporters hiding out in the Palestine Hotel in Baghdad, relying on former bathist officials who relay anti-american propaganda.

No doubt the author has his own motivations, but without a doubt, the american/british/western press has had a bad, inaccurate and ultimately "spun" war. There was no quagmire, problems, difficulties or horendous death counts on either side of the war. It was fast, efficient and effective. I'm ranting, here is the

Money Quote:

The stuff you don't hear about on CNN? Let's start with Electrical Power production in Iraq. The day after the war was declared over, there was nearly 0 power being generated in Iraq; 45 days later, in a partnership between the Army, the Iraqi people and some private companies, there are now 3200 mega watts (Mw) of power produced daily, or 1/3 of the total national potential. Downed power lines ( big stuff, 400 Kilovolt (Kv) and 132 Kv) are being repaired and are now about 70% complete.

Jebby Ma boy
Good ole jeb comes to Canada? Well, its almost as good as a real state visit, i suppose. i don't really understand how both the US and Canada keep up this charade about relations being as good as any other time in history....its a joke. its obvious that bush and chretien don't get along. when chretien was a youth there were stories about him physically fighting conservatives.

anyhoo, i doubt they'll be singing on stage together any time soon...but if they do, reagan and mulroney might have to have a battle of the Ex-Leaders band performance. 80's leaders vs. millenium shmoes! ...anyways, getting back on topic...two things stickout from this article:

1 .Ontario and Florida do about $4-billion worth of trade a year. -->okay so jeb is on a trade mission, and he comes here only for the 4 B? i guess its a decent amount..but....
2. During his Toronto visit, Mr. Bush met members of the Canadian Snowbird Association, Air Canada president Robert Milton and Ontario Premier Ernie Eves. ah-ha!

yep, there it is. remember when the US thought they'd limit the amount of time a foreigner could stay in the US to a month? how fast did that get ditched? about 1 second....why?

Snowbirds. the most power canadian veto over american power.

If rich, older, voters, who happen to be rich, spend time in the US and are rich (did i mention well-off?) Canadians are pissed, watch out. They vote with dollars where they spend time. That restriction on Canadians was bumped from 1 month to 6 months in about one second. The canadian snowbirds retire and spend mega bucks in florida, arizona and the other southern states because older canadians (who own every damn thing in canada!) want to retire in a warm climate (can ya blame them? who wants to spend their golden years in winnepeg?).

anyways, just shows you who's pulls the string in this country. The chump change is in trade. the real money is in transplanting the richer, older, canadians to the US.
