Ann Coulter: the right wing MoDo
Sometimes I love Ann Coulter. She's the right wing's little educated, intelligent nutball who says some funny stuff sometimes. And then are times when she says we should:
1) Invade the enemies lands
2) Kill their leaders
3) Convert everyone to Christianity....
Or other crazy rant, using sweeping generalizations...there was an article a while back in the Observer about her, and I kind of understand what she is doing: she hates liberals. And to drive home the point, I think she will often say things simply to get backs up. I don't honestly think she believes most of the stuff she writes. Its well written, funny (sometimes) and interesting...but she has a problem with making major generalizations about people, that aren't qualified.
She likes outdoor sports and healthy exercise in a suburban or rural environment. She deplores drinking, liberalism, PC-ism and its nazi tendencies, is somewhat unfriendly to gays and hates New York. She is well written, widely read and I can't help thinking that despite her schooling, academic achievements and whatnot, she still comes across as the exact same right wing snootiness she hates in New York Liberals!
She looks down on people. period. consider peggy noonan or elizabeth nickson. both of them are right wing, intelligent people, maybe not as famous, but accepting of differences. Ann comes across as the perfect fascist: uncaring, privileged, and suffering from tunnel vision.
I love ann conditionally. when she's on, she's on. but she has to drop the hate. I know she's taken a lot of flack from a lot of people (see Salon.com and their extremely sexist review from a, oh gosh, former Clinton aide....its okay to be a sexist liberal at salon.com if you are against a white women.)
