Koizumi says that he goes to Yasukuni to extend his condolences to the souls of those who perished in past wars. However, we must ask what value there is in persisting to make these visits if they put a damper on Japan's postwar quest to build a peaceful nation, while also conspicuously narrowing the choices for diplomacy in Asia.
Hella-weak. He doesn't realize what he's doing to Japan's image abroad by honouring complete jackasses.

No doubt. I have heard/read about Yasukini, and some people I know who have been to Tokyo purposefully avoid going there, despite its historical relevance. They are disgusted by what they read and hear about this shrine.
I hope that Koizumi realizes that this is seriously bad for relations with China, et al.
